What is Microsoft Office 365?

Microsoft Office 365 is provided for all staff and students at the University of St Andrews.

Office 365 is upgraded E-mail, Office apps and storage made available online using your St Andrews user account. You can access all of this using any modern web browser on a PC/Mac or mobile device. In addition to this you will be able to download and use the latest version of the full Microsoft Office suite for personal use on 5 devices (laptops, desktops, tablets and smartphones).

All staff and new students starting Academic year 2015-16 will use Office 365 for E-mail by default. IT Services are able to allow existing students to request a move to Office 365 for Email, see the Office 365 Information for students web page.

Benefits

  • 50GB of mailbox storage; use Outlook or OWA to access email
  • Advanced calendaring allowing you to schedule meetings and share your availability
  • 1TB cloud storage and file sharing using OneDrive for Business 
  • Office Apps in the cloud (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote etc.) that are optimised for mobile devices
  • 5 copies of latest Microsoft Office for personal use; See the install office page for more information
  • Skype for Business (Staff only)

Limitations

Microsoft limit email messages to 35MB (including attachments); if you want to send someone a large file you can easily upload it to OneDrive and share the file. This limitation also applies to Uniprint, large scans to email jobs will be split into separate email attachments. If available on your printer you can scan to USB (using a pen drive). Microsoft limit sending a single email message to a maximum of 500 recipients. If you need to send to a larger group then contact the IT Service Desk to setup a mailing list.

Due to Microsoft licensing rules we are not permitted to offer these benefits to Alumni or retired staff.

N.B  This version of of Office is for installation on personally-owned PCs and Macs only.  Do NOT download and install this version on your University-owned PC or Mac. 

If you require a copy of Microsoft Office on your work computer please contact the IT Service Desk and we will arrange to have the full version of Office 2013 installed on your PC or Office 2016 on your Mac.
